Marcelo Saracchi’s agent Marcelo Tejera reveals Celtic want to turn his spell at Celtic Park into a permanent move. He also confirms Martin O’Neill’s side face rival interest from England and Brazil.
The representative has been speaking to Carve Deportiva about the left-back’s future at Celtic and Olé have reported his comments.
He joined Celtic on loan from Boca Juniors in August 2025, after falling down the pecking order at his parent club.
Saracchi wanted to terminate his contract. Sport Witness earlier reported news from South America that Boca Juniors didn’t approve his request and instead approved a loan switch to Celtic.
On Friday, Tejera confirmed Club Nacional de Football and Club Atlético Peñarol’s interest in the 27-year-old. The two Uruguayan clubs had looked at him for the winter market, but O’Neill’s side didn’t end his loan stay early.
Celtic want to buy Saracchi
Later that day, Sport Witness covered reports from Argentina that Celtic will have to decide on his future soon.
The Glasgow club haven’t included a purchase option or obligation as part of the Uruguay international’s loan agreement.
However, O’Neill’s side have a strong intention to make the fullback’s stay at Celtic Park permanent. Saracchi’s agent has confirmed this in the latest interview.
“I have a meeting planned with the general manager of Celtic because they are also looking to buy his contract,” he said.
The representative revealed unnamed clubs from England and Brazil have approached him about a potential transfer for his client. He hasn’t specified whether the English club is from the Premier League or Championship.
“Marcelo Saracchi has the possibility of going to a team in England that contacted me, and also to a club in Brazil,” Tejera explained.
Our take: O’Neill’s side can take advantage
Saracchi occupies a foreign slot at Boca Juniors. Therefore, Olé state the South American club want to move him on in the summer. Celtic and other clubs’ interest is viewed as positive news for his parent club.
He has a contract until December 2027 and Transfermarkt estimates his value at €2m. Celtic can take advantage of Boca Junior’s clear intention to sell and sign him for a fair fee.
There should be more clarity on Celtic’s chances of signing Saracchi after the meeting with his agent.
